We take you on an exciting experience just a stone’s throw away form Melaque!

Our first stop is La Manzanilla, where we visit the local American Crocodile hangout; here there are regular close-up sightings of some of the largest local specimens. After a short stop we carry on to Tenacatita, where we embark on an hour long boat ride through the dense mangrove system, an excellent opportunity to spot some more of the local wildlife. Common sightings include the black-crowned night heron, snowy and great egrets, tricolored heron, white ibis, green heron and juvenile crocodiles. We have also been lucky enough to spot the local coati and some roseate spoonbills.

After the boat ride we head on over to Playa Mora, where we allow plenty of time for snorkelling around this impressive coral reef. This is said by many to be the best snorkelling spot in the area, and is also one of the most attractive small bays, an excellent place for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.

Lunch follows at around 2pm in one of the restaurants on Tenacatita beach, offering an excellent selection of local sea food as well as some tasty alternatives for the few none sea food fans! To make an excellent end to the day, we make our last stop at a raicilla distillery, where you learn about the tradition behind this locally produced beverage. Made from the green agave cactus, raicilla is made completely by hand and dates back to before the revolution, at which time tequila had not yet been produced. Tasting and purchasing opportunities are given before heading back to Melaque.
