This year’s new tour takes you into and around the capital city of Mexico, including its historic centre, Chapultepec, Tlalpan, Coyoacán, Xochimilco and Teotihuacan. Our knowledgeable guide will take us to see a series of impressive and historical architecture, world famous museums and of course the pre-Hispanic City of Teotihuacan, visited by millions of tourists every year.
On our route through the historic centre we will visit the Plaza de la Constitución (Zócalo), which is the main city plaza and one of the largest in the world. Its location was selected by the conquistadors upon what was previously the political and religious centre of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire. It is home to the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace, Headquarters for the Federal and local Governments, commercial and administrative buildings and the Templo Mayor.
Chapultepec Park is the largest green area in Mexico City and is home to the country’s most famous museum, the National Museum of Anthropology. The area also consists of an array of other museums, as well as an artificial lake, the Museum of Modern Art and the famous Chapultepec Castle.
In Coyoacán we witness the impressive mansions and beautiful plazas as well as the famous Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo Museum) and Diego Rivera Museum, before heading onto Tlalpan for lunch. From there we head to the famous site of Xochimilco, where we will enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the canals.
Our final day on this tour takes us to the enormous archaeological site that is Teotihuacan, where some of the largest pyramidal structures built in the pre-Columbian Americas are found. With possibly more than 100,000 residents at its peak, Teotihuacan was amongst the largest cities of the world during the first half of the First Millennium AD. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, it is now one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico.
