Experience Mex-ECO’s new trip takes you to the spectacular Copper Canyon to enjoy one of the world’s most exciting train rides. Although the whole area of canyons is commonly referred to as the Copper Canyon, it is actually made up of several different canyons, which together form an area four times larger than the Grand Canyon of Arizona.

Day one of our trip takes you to the picturesque colonial town of El Fuerte, where we enjoy a guided walk around the centre to admire the Spanish architecture and colonial ambience. Our journey along the famous Copper Canyon Railway begins early on day two, boarding in El Fuerte and disembarking in the town of Bahuichivo, followed by a half hour drive to the village of Cerocahui; the base for our afternoon trip to see the breathtaking Urique Canyon.

On the morning of day three we enjoy a leisurely walk around Cerocahui, as well as a visit to the boarding school for Tarahumaran children, before boarding the train once more for our final stretch of railway travel, from Bahuichivo to Divisadero. Here we take in the stunning views of the Copper Canyon, and visit caves inhabited by Tarahumara people. We then enjoy an overnight stay on the edge of the canyon, in the impressive Hotel Divisadero Barrancas.

For the next part of our journey we take a bus to allow for side trips and stops along the way. From Divisadero we head to the small town of Creel, our base for trips to the Valley of the Frogs, Valley of the Mushrooms, Misión de San Ignacio and Lake Arareko.

On day five of the trip we leave Creel for the spectacular Basaseachic Falls, the second highest waterfall in Mexico, located in the National Park of the same name. From there we continue on our journey to the Mennonite Camps near Cuauhtémoc, before an evening arrival into Chihuahua. Our final morning includes a guided tour of the centre of Chihuahua, before departing for the airport to return home.
